National Peanut Butter Day

24. January 2012 01:37

January 24th is known as "National Peanut Butter Day". On this day, fans of the creamy butter can slather it on, bake it in, or simply grab a spoon and enjoy. If you are nuts for peanut butter, then this is your day!

With peanut butter full of protein, it makes a great source especially for those who prefer to stay away from meat. In addition, peanuts are also rich in niacin and folate and are naturally cholesterol free. Thinking those health promoting antioxidants can only be found in green tea, spinach, and other fruits and vegetables? Peanuts actually offer more antioxidants than many of these!

This is one food holiday that I can admit that we definitely contribute to in my household with two little ones who are crazy about their PB & J sandwiches. It seems we are not alone either as it is reported that 90% of homes consume peanut butter regularly. In fact, in the United States alone around 1.5 billion pounds of peanut butter and peanut products are eaten every year.
